Christmas movies and chicken tacos by the twinkling Christmas tree.... all i need is a fire and a margarita! ;) Happy Holidays!!!

Dinner...fail
So, for the past gazillion or so days it has been pouring rain. So much so that they have delayed school for 2 hours twice this week not counting no school on wed. for veterans day. It was the perfect time to clean, lay around the house, and to experiment with some tasty dinner meals... I have been reading several blogs that post recipies from time to time and joining the rest of the bloggosphere in reading the Pioneer Woman, so i figured i was ready to venture out and whip up a lovely meal of my very own.
I decided to make a lovely meal of pan fried chicken with some oven-roasted/cooked in a foil pack/what-ever-you-wanna-call-them veggies (aka what was in the fridge). The chicken was, in fact, de-li-cious... the vegatables? Um, not so much. I don't know what happend...either i cooked them too long, or the combo of "stuff" i put on them is not good together, or asparagus really shouldn't be cooked with other vegatables, especially when it may or may not have been as fresh as we would have liked... who knows, but whatever it was-it was NOT good. My portion went straight to the trash. My poor husband had to go half hungry (don't worry, i fed him a snack later!)
I can't say that i have given up "experimental" cooking for good, but i may need to stick a little closer to instructions for a bit longer...my hubby will probably thank me for it!!!

It is pouring rain, just finished a great dinner of stir-fry veggies and shrimp with rice, there is no school tomorrow, and me and the hubs are about to curl up and watch a movie (the proposal), glass of duplin wine in hand. Looking forward to sleeping it a bit tomorrow while listening to the rain fall... :)
After a stressfull couple of days, (parents can be crazy... the life of a teacher...) I am excited for a mid-week break!

Basketball Season...
Well, basketball season is officially upon us... it is 7:02 and hubby is still not home from practice... It is going to be a long, lonely few months... But, there are some pros to go with the cons- at least he does get to come home each night and is not off traveling for business or overseas for months at a time...

What do you say?
Is it wrong to be a little weirded out that the lady delivering our pizza announced "Wow, this house looks soooo diferent than when my ex-fiance lived here... like so different." Um... k... thanks???

football...
Why, oh why, must my football teams stink... if i am going to be forced to watch football 5 nights a week, the least my teams could do is play a little football. I am seriously having quarterback issues. Can Carolina or the Redskins please do a little quarterback shopping during the offseason??? It would do a great deal for my spirits (and my hubby's, which would be especially nice...)
When your husband is an assistant coach for both jV and Varsity Football, you have season tickets to the UNC football games, and have married into a huge Redskins fan family, you have no choice but to learn to love football... even when it breaks your poor little heart... (UNC-Florida State, anyone???) Atleast the Varsity Crusaders have a wonderful 8-1 record and the second largerst amount of points scored per game in the state. thank you HCA for being the one redeeming football team this year...
But, as High School Football quickly draws to a close... I have only one question... Is it basketball season yet???

Yes, I am still here!
Yep, it has been awhile... a long while... but i am going to attempt to somewhat keep up with this, partially because I want to remember the little details, and partially because I want to enter some of the awesom blog parties that are out there.
For some reason, blogging is a little intimidating for me. I have no idea why. And, it seems like the longer I go without writing, the harder it is to jump back in. I guess the feeling of needing to recap everything since September has kept me from posting for awhile. But, instead of going backwards, I am going to just simply start at what prompted me to write today- the feeling of being totally lucky.
I have had a rough couple of days/weeks. Turmoil, so to speak, is flooding the halls of the school i work at as we all attempt to work together, to the best of our ablilites, and do what is best for the kids. It makes for a lot of frustration, and the desire to be professional leaves little room to vent... and I tend to take it out on my husband.
I have also felt a little "homesick". My little house is great and feels very much like home, most of the time, but the long, lonely nights of being a coach's wife (2 sports, nonetheless) coupled with the lack of girlfriends/socialization in my new town and missing my mommy (yes, i am 24 and i still miss my mommy!) have left me somewhat down and the dumps (oh, yes dark, dreary, rainy days and days on end didn't help.) My poor husband... but he is wonderful. Helps with laundry, mows the lawn by the light of the moon, does the dishes when I cook, and never complains.
But today, his school had a holiday (fair day? no fair!) so football was at 8 am and he has been home hard a work ever since. Weeding, cleaning, dishes... and steak for dinner-he's cooking! (and he's a good cook!) Did I mention I love him?
So, my jump back into the blog-o-sphere is to remind me when i forget, that i am, in fact a very lucky girl.
(yes, i did cut my hair-yay locks of love!)

To Cut, or Not To Cut...
School is under way! Full-swing begins on monday when all 19 of my little ones come at once, with a little of that first day shyness worn off! I am looking forward to starting off a great year.
Clayton and I have now been married for over 1 month. To celebrate, we had steak and potatoes with a stir-fry flair and Duplin Wine. (Complemented by candles and bride and groom wine decor.) AND....now that we are to the 1 month mark, I have really been contemplating what to do with my hair. When we got engaged i knew first thing that i wanted LONG hair at my wedding. Mostly down and curled. And that is exactly what i had. Therefore I have been growing out my hair (that was already pretty long) since November. While growing out my hair, I always had donating to locks of love in the back of my mind. I definitely would love my hair to go to help a child who has an illness.
But here lies the deliema...I am attached to my long hair. Some days all I want to do is chop it off. But i have succomb to those "right now" urges before and later regretted it, so i am trying really hard to make sure that a much shorter 'do is something i am comfortable with right now. Some people are saying "don't do it!" other say "it will grow back" so i am on the fence about when, and how short, i am going to go. Wish me luck!

Weekend Recap
This weekend FLEW by. On Friday Mom came to visit and to bring the rest of my school stuff, and after we dropped it off, we (and Clayton, since his game got cancelled) went to eat at Macaroni Grill in Wilmington. It was soooo good. I haven't eaten there in forever and I forgot how much i love thier bread. Afterward, we were going to go see "The Time Travelers Wife" but it started to late for us working folks to stay awake. Saturday we went to Topsail because Hurrican Bill (who was floating offshore) was making some pretty awesome waves for Clayton to surf. We endned up staying at his aunts beach house and eating out with his parents at Daddy Mac's (delicious!) Today was pretty boring. Drive back, laundry, cleaning, dishes, cleaning, school stuff, cleaning... luckily Degrassi was having a marathon. Yay Canadian teen drama! (Unfortunately, the hubby made me turn it to SportsCenter after 6 episodes.) Tomorrow we have one more teacher workday until the kiddos come and the school year officially begins! I can't believe summer is over!

being a "wife"
Today C came home from school/football practice (private schools started a week before us), and I was just about finished cooking dinner. It was a lovely meal of chicken stirfry and rice. Very delicious. Right after we sat down, Clayton looked at me and was like "I can't believe you cooked dinner and had it ready when i got home from work. That is so cool. I didn't think you would do that."
I didn't know whether to be flattered or offended. I am happy that he likes my cooking and didn't take it for granted. But I also kinda wonder why he thought I wouldn't cook. Could it be that for the last week all I made was pre preped frozen meals or hamburger helper? (hey, some ladies were nice enough to stock our pantry while we were on our honeymoon, I was just using what they gave us!) Maybe he just assumed boxed meals were gonna be the norm. I am happy to say that they will not be. And being appreciated is pretty nice too! :)
WES Bullpup
Tomorrow I start my first day as a Wallace Bullpup (and a Kindergarten teacher!) I am really excited to begin at this new school, but it will be different. For one thing, I don't have my "own" classroom. That's right, nope, not my own. It is a giant room broken down with diveder walls and cabnets into 3 spaces. It will be weird to be so open to other classes. Can't just shut the door to block out noise. Oh well. It will be an adjustment but i think I am up for it. Go Wallace! :)

Internet...finally!
Dear poor, neglected blog,
I am so sorry I have not written in quite some time! Getting married, spending a blissful week in the Mayan Rivera, Mexico, and moving into our new house (with no Internet/cable at first) has taken up much of my free time as of late. Not to mention the job-hunt. Laundry, cleaning, cooking, shopping, unpacking, re-arranging, organizing, and loving my new home has been fun and exhausting. I am, however, happy to report that Martha (Stewart) has come upon me and I have felt very wife-y the past couple of weeks. Tomorow mom and grandma are coming to visit, see the house, and bring me some things! And I should hear back about several job opportunities. Things are falling right into place, I love being married, and God is so good! I love my life! :)
Love,
Casey

Tired and Happy
Well, I am now home, exhausted but completely in love with my life (and my husband!) We got married last saturday (7/25) and had an amazing day surrounded by our family and friends. It went off without a hitch (well, just ONE hitch ;) haha!) Then we jetted off to the Mayan Rivera, south of Cancun. What an amazing place to spend our honeymoon! Now, i am ready for some sleep! More pics to come (soon I hope!)

Clayton and I are getting married in ONE WEEK! I am so excited it is finally here (even though the past few months have flown by!) The crunch-time countdown is on! :) :) :)

MIA
Yes, I have been MIA for a long time! But with good reason! We spent July 2-12 at Topsail Island. No internet, no TV, just lots of F&F^2 (friends, family, food, fun!) It was a blast. As soon as i got back, i jumped head first into wedding stuff i had been neglecting for 2 weeks! If that is not enough, we had to let our 17 year old doggie Oreo go yesterday, because he was in tremendous pain and had a large, inoperable tumor in his mouth. We have had him since I was in the 2nd grade.... I am now 24, so he has had a long, good life! I will miss him though! :(

What day is it?
I have a problem with being a teacher and summer break... I can never remember what day it is! Is it Monday? Wednesday? Friday? With no set routine and running around doing wedding errands I really lose track of the days! I almost always forget about my favorite summer shows because I forget what day it is! Ahhh... oh well. Lazy crazy days of summer...

:(
Holy Crap... what a day... First, I heard that 70's icon/Charlie's Angel Farrah Fawcett passed away from cancer. Then, just minutes ago, it was announced that Michael Jackson, King of Pop, has died suddenly. The loss of these 2 relatively young icons of America is sure to sadden many. :(Farrah, Michael, Rest in Peace...

I've Been Busy...
With a tiny bit more than a month till the wedding and closing on the house this week (not to mention parties every weekend and squeezing in as much time at the beach as possible-rough life i know) I have A LOT to do. And, seeing as how my new favorite hobby is to "remodel" thrift store finds, it adds plenty to my "want to-do list" (while less fun things sit undone on the regular one). I am trying to balance the musts with the wants and now I am going to show some of my most recent thrift finds! I can't wait to decorate my house!

Stop, Collaborate and Listen...
On Friday night, Clayton and some friends of ours ventured out to the Tri City Rib Fest. We headed out, walked around, ate some really expensive but really good ribs, and then headed over to the stage area to see none other than 90's icon Vanilla Ice. We waited and waited and waited for this guy for well over an hour and a half, but it was all worth it because of this :
Clayton was like a kid in wherever kids like to be where they can't stop smiling and giggling... Ice sang (rapped??) "Ice, Ice Baby" and Clayton's personal favorite, "Go Ninja Go" from the Ninja Turtles movie, then hung around and took pictures with a few fans. Luckily for Clayton he is really tall, and Ice took my camera and took this self-portrait of the two of them. Clayton was thrilled to have proof he saw Vanilla Ice in person (even though it is about 15 years after it would have been "cool") and I am glad I got my camera back in 1 piece! But, it really was a fun night and I'm glad we stuck it out and waited for the show. It was totally worth it to see the look on Clayton's face the rest of the night! :)

I Cried...
It happened. Yep, I cried. I really am gonna miss those little devils angels. When Mrs. S___ started talking about how they were the last class to call me "Ms. S_______" I got a little teary-eyed. (It was the first time I have actually thought about not being Ms. S_______. And it will be really weird to answer to MRS. H____. ) And when 5 or 6 out of 20 kids started crying, I really got teary-eyed. It is really special to know that those kids are gonna miss me enough to make them cry. I hope that means I made some sort of a positive impact on their lives. It is feelings like this that make all the paperwork and bureaucracy worth it. But, summer is right around the corner, and I am sure there are plenty of reasons to be happy about that, too!

Last Day...
Well, tomorrow is the last day of school. I never thought I'd say this (after this year's class) but, it makes me a little sad. I feel like this year has FLOWN by. I am gonna miss those little monkeys when they leave tomorrow. I know how after the school year is over, the negatives and annoyances fade and I love seeing last year's kids (my 1st class) in the hall! I guess it is a little more sad since I know I won't be seeing these little boys and girls in the hallway next year :( (And I can't believe my little 1st class is going to be in 2nd grade!)
On another note, after our teacher workdays are over, I HAVE to get back on the wedding train. I jumped ship over to the HOUSE "boat" a while back and have begun to neglect the little tedious wedding tasks that have got to get done. Hopefully, since there will be no school, I can do some of both! :) Seeing as how I have made about 6 trips to Goodwill for awesome "remodeling" stuff, I need to get all my house projects finished, too!
Friday, June 5, 2009
I'm off to Chapel Hill for a weekend of fun and UNC baseball. Hopefully i will be able to squeeze some shopping for house stuff in too! I have so many crafts I want to do on my plate! And, only 1.5 days of school left! WHOOHOO! (The kids were awful today, so it is making it a little easier to be super excited about them leaving!) Have a great weekend!!!

Goodwill Party!
I am excited to participate in "the Goodwill" party hosted by Thrifty Decor Chick because her blog is the inspiration behind my awesome Goodwill transformations! I actually posted about this here and here about 2 down, but in to make things easier, here are my Goodwill trash-to-treasures!
BEFORE:
1 beat-up wooden bread box, two trays, lots of candle holders, small mirror, one lazy susan, one pedestal bowl, a gold bowl, and one brass lamp (that some how didn't make it into the picture). Cost? 30 bucks, plus some paint!
AFTER:
Beautiful black, silver, and blue accessories for our new house! And one "oil rubbed bronze" lamp! I love all my little treasures!
I also want to share my wine bottle vases. I made these out of wine bottles. I didn't technically get them at Goodwill, but I'm sure you could do it with any vase you might find there. All i did was prime and spray paint the bottles Carolina Blue. After they dried, i covered half the bottle with newspaper and taped a stripe on the bottles. I then spray painted them with the remaining oil-rubbed bronze spray paint. After drying and removing the tape, I glue-dotted a ribbon to the dividing line for a finishing touch! I love them and can't wait to use them in our bedroom. Cost? um, free. I used stuff I already had!
Thanks for looking!!!

Drum Roll......
YES!!!!!!! We Have a HOUSE!!!! We (Clayton) signed the papers on Tuesday and it is ours! We have somewhere to live! I am so excited about this little house! I have been decorating it in my head for about 2 weeks. It is the exact floor plan, but with an added garage (!), corner lot, better/brand new appliances (!), brand new carpet (!), fresh paint (!), and a better exterior color (!). Did I mention it was 5,000 less in asking price? Yep! Looks like we got the better deal! There is totally a reason the first house/offer didn't work out! We are so lucky! I can't wait to move in!

Feelin' Crafty...
Clayton and I have made an offer on a house... we should know very soon whether or not we will have a home to live in after the wedding. And, in anticipation of home-ownership I have been mentally decorating the house we made an offer on. I came across this great idea on a "decorating for less" blog and I couldn't wait to get started on my own projects. The very next day I headed out to Goodwill in search of old lamps and such to re-vamp. I came away with 2 lamps, 2 platters, 2 candle holders, 2 bowls (1 wooden, 1 brass), a beat up bread box, and 2 vases...all for 37 bucks! Then it was off to Wal-mart for some Krylon Oil-rubbed Bronze spray paint, and of course the go to satin finish black. I came home, prepared the surfaces, and painted away. And I love the results if i do say so myself! I am so excited to paint and "remodel" a bunch of stuff I had in college that doesn't match the color schemes we (I!) picked out! Yay for cheap decor! And finally getting out of a creative slump!

Happy Birthday Clayton!!!
Today Clayton turns 24! When we met, we were 20, so it kinda puts it into perspective how long we have actually known each other(and how fast time flies!!!!) WOW! I remember his 21st birthday like it was yesterday (he doesn't!) His 22nd birthday was my UNC graduation, and his 23rd was the day after his graduation. This is the first birthday I have missed :( But, next year, we will be married! YAY! So, in honor of Clayton's birthday, here are 24 random things about him!
1. He loves basketball. He played in High School, at Junior College, and is now a Varsity HS coach. His passion for basketball (and coaching) is evident the minute you see him coach!
2. He is the biggest Carolina fan I know! His blood truly is Carolina Blue. He knows so much about UNC sports and attends any football/basketball/baseball game possible!
3. He likes ranch with everything. I only have one word for this-YUCK! (and i guess i will have to start buying it at the store!)
4. He is a people person. Everyone likes him and he brings the party.
5. He makes me smile. And he makes me mad. But most of the time, he makes me smile.
6. He is very tall. Like 6'6'' tall. I sometimes forget how much taller he is than me until i see a picture of us where I am not on my tiptoes. :)
7. He loves football. High School football, UNC football, Redskins football... If it is fall, then I promise, he has Friday, Saturday, and Sunday blocked off for football.
8. 95% of the clothing he owns is Carolina Blue. 90% of those clothes are Carolina T-Shirts. You can never show your school pride too much!
9. His most annoying habit (to me!) is his love of a particular video game-Call of Duty. For some reason he and his buddies love to play those games... but to me, the sound of gunfire means that I am going to be very bored for the next, oh, 3 hours.
10. All of his pets have been named after Carolina some how--Smith, Roy, Ramses...
11. He always lets me choose to eat at Chile Verde in MA even though he still hasn't found an item on the menu he really likes.
11. He is one of the most generous people I know. He will buy your drinks, pay for your dinner, etc., etc., even if he just met you. Sometimes i feel like people take advantage of it though.
12. Clayton is the "King of the Grill". And the "Shrimp Man". :)
13. He can't stand to sit there (unless, of course, a sport is on!), so he is always up moving or doing something.
14. His first name is "Fredric". I always say "Ready Freddy?" and laugh at myself. He is no longer amused. :)
15. His only request about the wedding stuff has been NO RED. Yep, he hates State that much.
16. For his college graduation dinner he choose to eat at IP3's... Pizza and a pitcher are all he needs for a celebratory meal.
17. HE HATES DUKE. 'Nough said.
18. He likes many different kinds of beer... but cheap beer (aka PBR) is his favorite.
19. The only music we really agree on is Corey Smith. (And Kenny Chesney concerts)
20. He does not like desserts. Weird.
21. He likes history/social studies. He teaches it.
22. He is very competitive. He DOES NOT like to loose. In anything.
23. He takes a bath everyday. For hours.
24. He is my favorite person. And he loves me! :)
I love you babe! Have a great birthday!

Big, Fun, Weekend!
This past weekend was a fun one! My little brother graduated from college! Not just any ol' college, but the best University on the Planet--The University of North Carolina Chapel Hill! It was good to be back in Chapel Hill for the graduation festivities. It was the 3rd UNC graduation i have attended in a row. First my gradation, May 13th, 2007, then Clayton's graduation on May 12, 2008, and last, McKenzie's graduation on May 10th, 2009. The speaker was Archbishop Desmond Tutu. He was interesting to say the least! Yay UNC grads!
McKenzie and his girlfriend Melissa! :) So cute!
The family at the Old Well! I <3>
Sunday was also Mother's Day! Mom, I love you! Thank you for everything you do for me! You are amazing! I don't tell you that enough!

Rain, Rain go away...
I am so tired of the rain. It seems like it has been raining for 5 days straight... Oh, wait. It has. I am going through Vitamin-D withdrawal! I need some sunlight!
Yesterday, it was pouring. And thundering and lightening. And a Pre-K kid pulled the Fire Alarm. So, my 20 kindergartners and I rushed out the door to stand in the rain for 10 minutes while things were getting sorted out. Yeah, that was fun. Oh, and said kids haven't gotten to play outside all week. Poor things, i know they are going crazy. I am going crazy.
Sunshine! Please come back!
YES OR NO? (apparently I like these Q/A things...)
1. You can ONLY answer Yes or No.
2. You are NOT ALLOWED to explain ANYTHING unless someone messages or comments you and asks. -- and believe me, the temptation to explain some of these will be overwhelming nothing is exactly as it seems.
Now, here's what you're supposed to do. . . Copy and paste this into your notes, delete my answers, type in your answers and tag as many of your friends as you'd like to.

Wow! I have actually done a lot of these things. I have been really blessed in my relatively short 24 years of life to have visited so many places in God's great earth. Hopefully I will be able to add more to this list in the years to come! (Of course there are some i'd rather leave alone!)
Date Night Friday!
On Friday night Clayton and I had a great home-cooked dinner, complete with candles and Duplin Wine. We made grilled chicken toped with sauteed mushrooms and onions, bacon, and cheese, baked potato chips, and steamed asparagus. Clayton grilled the chicken while I prepared the rest of the food and we had a great meal! It was really nice to have some alone time right before the busy wedding festivities begin in the next few weeks!
Yay for a romantic dinner. After dinner we watched Hurricanes hockey on the couch. Oh well. :)
